Boston Curb Alert Relaunches in Boston

Boston, Massachusetts Aug 30, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - September 1st is right around the corner, and with the impending influx of college students and young professionals moving into new apartments and homes around the city, one thing is for sure: the jettisoning of unwanted pieces of furniture and household items onto curbs and corners.

A solution was needed for residents of Boston and its surrounding neighborhoods to navigate the chaos known as "Allston Christmas," and so Boston Curb Alert was born.

The mission of Boston Curb Alert is to leverage social data and community involvement to help residents of Boston discover unwanted household items, discarded during move-in periods, and extend the life of those items.

The site seeks to organize unwanted household items, typically left on the curbside during peak moving periods, using Twitter and community-generated content.

In addition to the discovery functionality, the site has added a DIY project hub and a curated tools shop. These changes aim to help improve the user experience while providing the tools and resources necessary to help repair, restore, and update their discovered items.

According to Boston's Department of Public Works, the city of Boston processes approximately 260,000 tons of solid waste and 44,000 tons of recycling, every year. Boston Curb Alert thinks that's a lot of waste.

Massachusetts resident and digital marketing professional Jack DeManche created Boston Curb Alert to reduce waste, extend the life of possibly-unwanted household items, and keep the streets cleaner.

DeManche says, "I've lived in the Boston area for some years, and I've always been amazed by the number of items that are discarded during peak moving season. I hope that Boston Curb Alert can give people an easy way to share and find great items."

The service is currently live for the Greater Boston area, with plans to expand to 5 additional cities by the end of 2019.
