Boston, Massachusetts Sep 18, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - “My Music Sucks has a very special place in my heart. I was watching Downfalls High, the music video movie that Machine Gun Kelly made for his Tickets to My Downfall album, and was instantly inspired. I had an instrumental that this Italian producer named Tofu sent me, and I knew that I wanted to make an alternative song paying homage to MGK’s new style. It only took me an hour or two to write. I felt like lately, since people found out that I started making my own music, they constantly had the need to put their two cents in and tell me what to do in terms of presenting myself since I dove headfirst into completely different styles of music after starting out in opera. That’s why my first line of the song was, “Don’t tell me who to be, you don’t know my life, I get bad dreams, I don’t really sleep at night”. Also the day before, I got in a small fight with my brother in which he punched me in the lip, after which we smoked a joint to make peace and my lip was still bloody so it left a little red stain on the tip of the paper. That’s why I say, “I just bloodied up my lip, I kissed the j and left a stain no lipstick, red on white, misfit, win the fight”. Then the hook reiterates my first statement in the song because people kept saying I fell off because I started making modern music which they referred to as “less sophisticated” than the classical music I sang before.
I decided to turn that negative into a positive by agreeing with them and saying that “My music kinda sucks, it’s never meant to be, I love to self destruct, an excuse for losing sleep… excuse for you to leave… excuse the losing streak, excuse me Ima go and lose some sleep”. This song is essentially a big MGK inspired middle finger to everyone that never believed in me, and I feel like it’s a message that people can resonate with because everyone has people doubting them in their own lives, and the best thing you can do is let others think what they want, and stay in your own lane. If you really wanna piss off your opposition, simply agree with what they’re saying and catch them off guard. I think the reason this song performed so well is that it’s the most genuine anthem for why you shouldn’t care what others think.”
