London, United Kingdom Apr 12, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - Inbound on decorated London label Ruff DnB is the Open Your Eyes EP, a sublime new four-tracker from fresh signing Blue Frequency.
Hailing from Austria and active in the drum and bass scene since 2018, the rising star has made a name for himself with a string of releases on fellow indie label DNB Database, including February’s dancefloor-ready System of Nature EP. Shifting towards a softer liquid sound for his Ruff DnB debut, he showcases a penchant for all things bright and airy over the course of the new release, with a nuanced array of styles on show.
Taking pride of place on the project is its title track, which sees warm piano chords offset by twinkling arpeggios before launching into feel-good drops centered around throbbing synth work and blissful, rolling drums. Overlaid with a soothing topline, the song serves as the perfect primer to this up-and-coming talent’s vibrant discography.
There’s plenty more where that came from, too. The aptly titled instrumental “Daydream” is an ethereal slice of weightless liquid, its gleaming melodies and dancefloor lead contributing to its boundless feeling of escapism. “Hide Away” finds soulful vocal samples at the forefront once again, underscored by shimmering, metallic chords and resonant subs. Concluding the EP on an equally elated note is “Inside of Me”, a tranquil number fusing sparkling plucks with silky keys and ambient pads to make for one of Blue Frequency’s most intricate arrangements yet.
