Award-Winning Spanish Theatre Company Los Teloneros Makes New York City Debut

Valencia-based Los Teloneros brings “No Nos Merecemos Soñar” to Manhattan for four performances at LATEA Theater, October 28–30, 2026.

New York City, New York (Issuewire.com)  - NEW YORK — Spanish theatre company Los Teloneros will make its New York City debut this October with No Nos Merecemos Soñar, an award-winning contemporary tragicomedy written and directed by Valencian playwright Rafael Ponce.

Coming directly from Valencia, Spain, the company will present four performances at LATEA Theater in Manhattan’s Lower East Side from October 28–30, 2026, marking a new international chapter for a production that has already received four awards in Spain.

A NIGHT OF SONGS, BROKEN DREAMS AND UNEXPECTED ENCOUNTERS

No Nos Merecemos Soñar — literally “We Don’t Deserve to Dream” — brings together five people who do not know each other during a night that was never supposed to happen.

Between songs and drinks, their stories begin to emerge: abandoned dreams, broken promises and lives that might have been. Through humor, irony and the absurd, the play looks at a middle class uncertain of what it has become and a generation that inherited the promise of a future that never arrived.

At the heart of the work is a simple question: What happens when one generation’s dreams become the next generation’s cruel joke?

Ponce’s theatrical language combines spoken theatre, music, song and movement, creating a production that deliberately moves between forms rather than fitting into a single genre.

FROM VALENCIA’S NEIGHBORHOOD BARS TO MANHATTAN

The origins of the play are closely connected to Valencia. Ponce began developing the work after spending three months observing people in neighborhood bars, particularly the vulnerability and exhibition that emerge when someone stands up to sing another person’s song.

Those observations gradually became characters, encounters and stories. What began in the bars of Valencia will now be performed for audiences in Manhattan.

FOUR AWARDS IN SPAIN

Ahead of its U.S. debut, No Nos Merecemos Soñar received four awards in Spain: Outstanding Show, Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Lighting, and First Prize – Gold Award, Professional Category.

The company’s journey from Valencia to New York has also attracted Spanish media attention, including coverage by Levante-EMV, which chronicled the project under the headline “De Benimaclet a Manhattan,” and Cadena SER’s Hoy por Hoy Valencia.

FOUR PERFORMANCES IN NEW YORK

Los Teloneros will perform at LATEA Theater at The Clemente Center, 107 Suffolk Street, New York, from October 28–30, 2026. The production runs approximately 75 minutes and will be performed in Spanish.

On October 27, ahead of the LATEA engagement, the company will also be welcomed by La Nacional – Spanish Benevolent Society in Manhattan for a special presentation.

Written and directed by Rafael Ponce, the production features Alba Serra, Begoña Tena, Cora Mateu, Manuel Ruiz Arteche and Marian Villaescusa.
