Award winning Latina director Sonia Machado Hines can't be stopped.

"Hatshepsut" selected to screen at Austin's Capital City 2020 online Black Film Festival

Santa Monica, California Nov 25, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Black ++ Productions (Sonia Machado Hines and Terence Bernie Hines) announced today that its short film [HATSHEPSUT] has been invited to the eighth annual Capital City Black Film Festival (CCBFF), an Austin, Texas-based film festival dedicated to films written or directed and produced by Black filmmakers, films with Black actors in principle roles or that are about Black characters, subject matter or issues related to the Black community.

"To bring Egypt into a Golden Age, Pharaoh Hatshepsut, a woman, publicly appeared, and fought as a man - but loved as a woman. It's a true tale of love and courage despite everything,” says Hines.

“HATSHEPSUT” is among over 50 films that will be shown throughout the three-day festival that includes networking, panel discussions, workshops, dynamic film screenings and parties. This will also be the first time in the festival’s eight year history that the event takes place virtually, enabling film fanatics from all over the world to join in on the action.

“HATSHEPSUT is a film about an extraordinary woman who, due to the times of Egypt ruled as a man, but lived and loved as a woman.  She led Egypt into a Golden Age for 22 years but her memory was wiped out by her enemies after she died. Her fate was to never be remembered, but not ever forgotten” says director Sonia Machado Hines.

Capital City Black Film Festival is excited to share that the 2020 celebrity ambassador is none other than the multi-talented entertainer Anthony Anderson! Few entertainers have navigated the world of films, television, and game shows as effortlessly as Anderson. Anderson most recently won America's heart as the host of the revived gameshow "To Tell the Truth" on ABC, as well as his role as Andre Johnson on the long-running sitcom "Blackish." Anderson is no stranger to keeping Americans laughing, guessing, and wanting more.

“Having Anthony Anderson as our 2020 ambassador is very meaningful. Over the years, we have watched his career continue to soar. His personal story speaks to what talented, ambitious creatives can achieve in the film industry and the power they have to shape the way Hollywood views Black films,” CCBFF Executive Director Winston G. Williams said. “While we are facing significant challenges in our country, we are determined to save space for Black creatives that affords them unique opportunities to learn, connect and grow – despite the barriers that exist in the film industry. We are turning our focus on mental health this year and ensuring that our supporters have access to the critical resources needed to heal, restore and thrive.”

Anderson joins previous ambassadors Sherri Shepherd, Leon Robinson, and Miguel Nunez.

After a tremendous inaugural year in September 2013 and experiencing unexpected growth since, CCBFF continues to grow, going from two to five screens with a diverse slate of feature films, documentary/feature films, short films, documentary/short films and music videos. The film ratings will range from G through the maximum of R.
