Astrologer-Turned-Musician Frankie Fonseca Releases Fifth Album “Retrograde”

An Alternative Rock Journey Inspired by Identity, Legacy, and the Stars

Gloucester Township, New Jersey Dec 15, 2024 (Issuewire.com)  - Frankie Fonseca, a trailblazing transmasculine musician, poet, and activist, has announced the release of his highly anticipated fifth album, Retrograde. A fusion of alternative rock, punk, grunge, and indie influences, the album explores themes of healing, heartbreak, and pushing against the barriers of invisibility within marginalized communities. Released incrementally between now and February, Retrograde promises to push boundaries while offering deeply personal and universal stories.

With two singles from the album already out—“Retrograde”, the title track, and “Venus Opposite Mars”—Fonseca’s music reflects his unique path as a generational curse breaker and the first in his lineage to pursue an artistic life over a practical one. Drawing from his multicultural heritage as the great-grandson of former Colombian President Deogracias Fonseca on one side and Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq ancestry on the other, Frankie’s work channels a legacy of resilience, storytelling, and defiance.

“I wrote this album as a map through the chaos of transformation,” said Fonseca. “The astrological concept of retrogrades mirrors so much of what it means to undo inherited patterns and carve out your own identity, especially as a trans person. This music is my way of taking something challenging and turning it into art that speaks to healing and breaking free from invisibility.”

Frankie’s artistry doesn’t stop at music. Each of his album covers is hand-painted by Frankie without the use of paint brushes, showcasing his raw, hands-on approach to creativity. The covers serve as visual extensions of the music’s themes, translating emotion and story into textured, striking images.

Known for his raw, emotive lyrics and electric soundscapes, Fonseca’s work is steeped in celestial metaphors, drawing on his expertise as an astrologer. The album’s second single, “Venus Opposite Mars”, delves into the tension between love and conflict, while the title track “Retrograde” offers a powerful reflection on revisiting the past to move forward.

Frankie’s artistry extends far beyond music. As a poet and activist, he has built a reputation for using his platform to advocate for social justice, self-expression, and the power of healing through creativity. His work connects personal experiences of heartbreak and resilience to broader struggles for visibility and equity, inspiring audiences to confront barriers in their own lives.

Retrograde follows Frankie’s journey as a bold voice in the alternative rock scene, blending his personal story with universal themes of resilience, rebellion, and transformation. Fans can expect an evocative mix of heartfelt melodies, hard-hitting riffs, and introspective lyricism—all underscored by a punk ethos of individuality and defiance.

The full album will be available by February 2025, with additional tracks being released throughout the coming months. Listeners can stream the first two singles now on all major platforms.
