An Unusual Gift from Beata Szałwińska on the Occassion of the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Rachmaninoff

New York City, New York Jun 21, 2023 (Issuewire.com)  - This year marks exactly 150 years since the birth of the great composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, who still impresses with his compositions, remaining immortal forever. On this occasion, the outstanding Polish-Luxembourgian pianist Beata Szałwińska recorded the famous Vocalise op. 34 No 14, which was composed by the master himself in 1915. The recording of the perfect transcription by Frédéric Meinders was made on April 2, 2023, in Arthur Elsen’s studio in Luxembourg on a Fazioli piano. The sound engineer for the recording was Maurice Barnich. In the original, the vocalise was composed for voice with piano accompaniment. Later, Rachmaninoff himself wrote a version for symphony orchestra. Frédéric Meinders’ transcription is extremely rich in sound and faithful to the composer’s  harmonic and melodic original.

“Playing the piano is not just pressing keys mechanically,” said Szałwińska. “You need great musicality, a sense of time, sound colors and of course great technique to be able to conjure up beauty from all these sounds. Each piece of music is like a road that has a beginning and an end. And what happens during this journey depends on the artist’s talent and sensitivity.”

Vocalise is a continuation of the golden series of 14 recordings, with pieces that are very close to the pianist’s heart. Each of them is unique, issued for a special occasion. Each is also an expression of love for music. The first recording of the gold series was “Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla. Now lovers of classical music will be able to enjoy the new version of Vocalise and the exceptional beauty of Szałwińska’s interpretation, full of unearthly sensitivity, various  sound colors, new phrasing, and freshness. This recording of the Vocalise is certainly one of the most beautiful that has been performed on the piano.

“As a people, we can leave behind a monument and a testimony of the existence of man on this earth in the form of brilliant musical works that can make this world more beautiful and give people emotion and a sense of uniqueness,” Szałwińska said. “Art, music, and the beauty resulting from them are constant values and it is something wonderful that we have them, that we can have such a way of beauty that fills our lives,” Szałwińska added.
