Dumfries, Scotland Dec 7, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - It was 2010, Robert didn't get a puppy that Christmas, but he did get a Christmas song. He knew he would have to look after it for years to come just as he would a puppy. Robert wrote a song and called it 'Once Upon A Christmas'. The newly remastered version is out now, December 5th, 2023 and can be heard here Listen to Once Upon A Christmas 1,825,000 Christmas songs are uploaded to Spotify alone every year. Now honestly, how many have you heard? 'Once Upon A Christmas' became a top ten hit. Robert had learned the importance of achieving the highest quality recordings he could afford. A multi-instrumentalist, he writes, records, produces and releases most of his songs on his own. He also produces songs for a select number of artists.
In 2013 'Once Upon A Christmas' entered the charts in the Netherlands at No.13 and rose to No.6. It was renamed 'Hoo Hoo Christmas' for the Dutch market and performed by Byentl who has had many hits in the Netherlands Dutch chart success for Robert Maitland Constantly working on new material In 2014 his song with Lauren Dalgleish called 'Queen Of Oz' won the UK songwriting festival Queen Of Oz UK Songwriting Festival Winner
A few artists and songwriters like Mariah Carey, Bing Crosby and Irving Berlin require no introduction and there are countless stories about their exploits. However, most songwriters remain largely anonymous, so without help from a music publisher it is extremely difficult to send their songs for consideration to potential clients as most do not accept unsolicited submissions. Within 1 year the puppy was running and 'Once Upon A Christmas' sung by Alexis Umathum was featured on the album called 'A Season Of Hope' by producer Jason Brawner. Jason is a producer for The Voice, American Idol and America's Got Talent. Robert had made more contacts and learned from his experiences with the music publishers. He would return to record at Ca Va Sound when he could afford to and on one visit the owner, Brian Young suggested he could save money by preparing & recording some tracks at home and sold him a small Protools home recording setup. It took him a couple of years before he started to get recordings he was happy with and it meant he could take his Protool sessions into the studio saving both time and money. Robert's not looked back since, upgraded his home recording setup and now produces songs for himself and other artists. His song portfolio has grown substantially and every song receives the same nurturing.
In 2019 Robert's publisher told him that 'Once Upon A Christmas' was to be featured in the movie 'Matchmaker Christmas'. It was released just before Christmas that year with some great reviews Matchmaker Christmas (Movie)
One publisher called Justin Wilde, known as Mr. Christmas caught his attention and offered some crucial advice. He told Robert that in his extensive experience selling songs, they should be produced to the highest level possible. His clients would have a far greater idea of how it would fit their projects, whether it be placing it in a movie or TV or having their artist record it. Robert decided to go with Justin Wilde's advice which he knew would involve a high financial cost.
Robert chose a well known studio in Glasgow, Scotland called Ca Va Sound where Simple Minds, David Byrne, John Martyn to name but a few had recorded. Back in the day he had recorded there and knew the high quality sound it could produce. He booked two full days and hired the best professional session musicians and the vocalist Cariss Crosbie. Richard Anderson was contracted as musical director and arranged the parts for recording. Robert had met Richard when he started writing the musical 'Taking Care of Business' and needed a first class pianist. Now completed
Marsha Malamet
(Grammy nominated, multi-platinum songwriter & musical theatre writer) wrote: " I have been listening to your music. You are fantastic!
Good luck with all of your endeavors.
The song ‘I Love You’, was gorgeous!"
The finished recording was pristine and better than Robert could have hoped for. Year on year just like the puppy, the song was growing stronger. A new-born child, a Christmas song or even a puppy all need nurturing to turn out at their best. 'Once Upon A Christmas' was sent to the music publisher Justin Wilde for his consideration and offered Robert a publishing contract which Robert accepted and signed.
His new songs are now played frequently on national radio stations including BBC Radio in the UK. Here's what BBC radio presenter Tom Robinson said on his show about the song 'Moonbeam'. "The effortless musicianship and songwriting skills of the Scottish artist Robert Maitland with his timeless and irresistible tune Moonbeam."
Christmas songs unlike puppies can live to a ripe old age for example, Brenda Lee's classic 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' is No.1 this week in the Billboard Top 100 Chart Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree hits No.1 64 years after first release
His song is much younger, not even a teenager and the interest in it continues with blogs like The Hookblast featuring it in 'Don't Bore Us Get To The Chorus'. Robert has learned that Christmas songs can take on a life of their own and appear in the most amazing and sometimes surprising places. So he looks forward to the next 50 years and the nurturing will continue until it is a fully grown adult. It has been digitally re-mastered and is ready again for the new journey.
