98% of Pet Store Puppies Healthy According To Orange County Florida

Orange County Florida Pet Store Ban Being Considered

Orlando, Florida Jun 5, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - Recently, Orange County Commissioners took up the discussion to impose a pet store ban in the county. Citing consumer protection as their argument in support of such a ban, Commissioners Emily Bonilla and Nicole Wilson made claims that many sick puppies come out of pet stores, straining consumers from a financial and emotional standpoint. But Orange County leaders have admitted in a recent public meeting in May that based upon collected data, 98% of the puppies sold in the pet stores doing business in the county went home to satisfied customers.

What exactly how many sick puppies come from the stores that are set to close if such a ban were to be passed. Mayor Demings was the voice that answered that question. Based upon a collection of consumer complaints from various sources, Mayor Demings stated that a total of 149 complaints were tallied, and among these 149 complaints, not all of them stated health reasons as the basis of their complaint.

Although the Mayor failed to mention the timeframe of which those complaints were filed, since some of the pet stores in Orange County have been in selling puppies for decades, the number of complaints would be considered minuscule by comparison to other types of businesses. In fact, 149 complaints don’t seem like much at all considering it is based upon 8 pet stores selling puppies in Orange County. Mayor Demings also admitted that some of the 149 complaints may very well be double-counted complaints from a single consumer, who may have complained to multiple sources.

149 complaints spread across 8 businesses from an unknown timeframe seems to be a concerning problem for Orange County Commissioners. But exactly how many puppies have been sold by pet stores in Orange County? Mayor Demings answered that question as well.

Mayor Demings went on to state that the pet stores that are currently open in Orange County have sold approximately 8 thousand puppies in 2020.  So, Mayor Demings admitted in a public meeting that 8 thousand puppies were sold in a single year, which accrued at the most, 149 complaints from consumers. Said another way, pet stores in Orange County have over a 98% customer satisfaction rating!

If 98% of customers that buy puppies don’t have complaints, commissioners should not be wasting time discussing a ban for the 8 pet stores in the county. Successful retail businesses that bring in revenue and employment to the county should not be discriminated against, especially businesses that enjoy such widespread public support that over 8 thousand puppies went home in a single year.
