7-Year-Old Literacy Champion Jayce Joyce BCyA Awarded BBC Blue Peter Gold Badge
Seven-year-old author, literacy advocate and philanthropist Jayce Joyce BCyA has been awarded the BBC Blue Peter Gold Badge, the highest honour presented by the iconic children’s programme, recognising his outstanding contribution to early literacy, diversity and inclusion in children’s storytelling.
The Blue Peter Gold Badge is one of the most prestigious awards in British children’s media and culture, previously awarded to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, JK Rowling, Sir David Attenborough, Sir Mo Farah, Greta Thunberg, Steven Spielberg, Mary Berry, Marcus Rashford and The Prince and Princess of Wales. Jayce is among the youngest recipients in the award’s history.
Jayce received the award for championing reading and writing at an early age, amplifying underrepresented children’s voices and using storytelling as a tool for confidence, creativity and social impact. As founder of Books From Children To Children, Jayce has inspired thousands of children across the UK through literacy workshops, school outreach and the donation of school kits and learning resources to communities in need.
The recognition comes during a landmark year for literacy, with 2026 officially declared the UK’s National Year of Reading, placing renewed focus on the importance of nurturing a lifelong love of books from childhood.
Jayce Joyce BCyA said:
“I want children to know that their stories matter. Reading and writing can change how children see themselves and the world.”
Jayce is set to continue his literacy mission with a major national publishing project later this month, further elevating children’s voices at a pivotal moment for reading and education in the UK.
