36 Threatening and Life Changing Shots a Boxer Faced off The Ring

An event where terror met teaching

Boston, Massachusetts Aug 23, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - Lamont Powell a prominent boxer talks of one threatening event of January 2018 that shook his courage for a while. In about a minute's time, 36 gunshots were aimed at Powell while he sat in the car with his uncle. He says, “When they came walking up, all I saw was their hands raised, and a fire too.” There were multiple shots continuously ringing and creating terror. He felt as if his life was about to end yet the almighty’s blessings saved him. Despite this threatening mess, Powell was lucky enough to stay safe by ducking low, but unfortunately, his uncle got slightly hit in the leg.  This incident filled his life with great courage and high morale.

Powell says, “Every day, a mere thought that my life could’ve ended right there reminded me to do something productive with my time instead of sitting around and wasting it.” As a result, with consistent efforts, he made it to Providence’s Big Six Boxing Academy. He affirms that his grandfather raised him since he was a toddler and coached him into the ring when he turned 8 years old.  The sparkled spirit and dedicated focus paved his way towards being a pro boxer and score 7-0, and keep aiming higher.

Often times while addressing the group of students at The Met, Powell said.” “I’m looking at myself, like am I shot, and am I shot.” He always wanted to share his story to masses and convey to them that no matter how terribly wrong things go, there is always something watching and saving you  While Powell joined “Gloves up, Guns down” he affirms, “The only thing that could’ve saved me was God and my mom, my guardian angel.” He continued adding, “The streets don’t play fair.” Though the shooting got over and Powell started focusing on boxing, but his message deeply hit young Rhode Islanders. As a result, this young champ discovered his own passion and realized the importance of time.

Powell has always emphasized the value of time. He says, “Do something with your time. Put your time into something you love to do.” The effective grasp on the time creates champions and makes them unstoppable. Therefore, it is always better to invest time rather than spend it, which Powell learned from a terrifying experience of his life. Talking about his achievements, he says. “He owes it all to his grandfather who actually deserves it- the belt, the title, and every other reward.” The sheer gratitude and grounded approach of Powell towards life and his profession have inspired many others like him. Now, he aims to push his initiative, “Gloves up, Guns down,” to greater height and let his growth idea reach a million individuals out there who underestimate the value of each moment. Thus, the 36 gunshots did kill his moments, but not the life within.  Rather it gave meaning to his passion, positivity, and inner power.
