New York City, New York Jul 31, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - At the upcoming Shoppe Object, a new home brand is set to capture attention with its meaningful approach to modern textile design. 32 Spirits, a Brooklyn-based company offering handwoven, ethically sourced home textiles, will make its official debut at the show, presenting a collection of napkins, tea towels, placemats, runners, and throws created in partnership with women artisan weavers in northern Laos.
Rooted in cultural heritage and spiritual symbolism, 32 Spirits draws its name from a Lao belief that the world is composed of “thirty-two spirits,” with motifs representing elements both mythical and natural —the siho or elephant, the naga or snake, insects, flowers—that bring protection and wholeness. Products in the line feature these ancient symbols, reinterpreted through contemporary design, natural materials, and traditional weaving techniques.
“Our vision was to create something beautiful and functional that also honors and sustains traditional knowledge,” says Christina Shane, co-founder and creative director of 32 Spirits. “These pieces are woven with meaning—not just in their patterns, but in the way they are made, the women artisans who make them, and the lives they support.” adds Claire Hsiang Marx, co-founder.
Every item is made using:
Handspun cotton grown in local fields
Natural dyes from indigenous leaves, roots, seeds, and bark
Traditional handmade looms set up in weavers’ homes
Fair-trade principles, ensuring artisans control pricing and work schedules
32 Spirits works directly with a community of Tai Lue weavers in Laos, supporting women-led economic opportunity and the preservation of a fragile craft tradition.
At Shoppe Object, 32 Spirits will unveil its full debut line, including:
Indigo-dyed napkin sets inspired by the “elephant spirit” for protection
Woven runners featuring the “river naga spirit” symbolizing flow and renewal
Intricate throws made from naturally dyed cotton and featuring both the “naga” and “diamond” motifs
With a growing appetite among buyers for purpose-driven design, 32 Spirits offers a rare blend of cultural storytelling, ethical production, and aesthetic appeal.
