13th Gen Kicks Off LGBT History Month With Two Events At Out On Film, Atlanta's LGBT Film Festival

A Screening of 50 Years of Fabulous: the Imperial Council Story and Surviving the Silence, a Talk by Filmmaker, Cindy L. Abel

Atlanta, Georgia Sep 21, 2018 (Issuewire.com)  - Directed by Jethro Patalinghug, 50 YEARS OF FABULOUS: THE IMPERIAL COUNCIL STORY makes its Atlanta premiere at Out On Film on Sunday, September 30th at 11 am at Landmark Midtown Art Cinema, just in time to kick off LGBT History Month for the month of October. The film recounts the rich history of the Imperial Council, the oldest LGBT charity organization in the world. Founded in San Francisco by renowned activist, drag queen, and performer José Sarria, the Council has helped shape LGBT life and social history in San Francisco and beyond throughout the last five decades. Sarria was also the first openly gay man to run for political office in the United States in 1961.

The premiere screening will be attended by several special guests, including the film's two main stars, Emperor Kevin Lisle and Empress Khmera Rouge, and John Weber, the first African American Elected Emperor in the Mother Court who appears in the movie as a centerpiece character and an important spokesman for the organization. Also joining is 13th Gen's multi-award winning queer producer Marc Smolowitz who is in Atlanta to promote this film, as well as a second project with hometown appeal.

Smolowitz is Consulting Producer on Atlanta-based filmmaker Cindy L. Abel's latest project, SURVIVING THE SILENCE, the unbelievable, true story of two women in love who played a role in shaping military history: Col. Patsy Thompson and Barbara Brass. It was Col. Thompson who presided over the board that dismissed Col. Grethe Cammermeyer from the military for being a lesbian, and what was only recently revealed is that Col. Thompson is also a lesbian.

On Sunday, September 30th at 6:10 pm, followed by a screening of Dykes, Camera, Action!, festival attendees will have the opportunity to meet Cindy L. Abel and hear her speak about her film and reveal a new trailer. Following Cindy's talk, attendees are invited to a cocktail reception with Surviving The Silence subjects, Col. Pat Thompson & Barbara Brass, filmmakers Cindy L. Abel and Michael Bruno, and consulting producer Marc Smolowitz, at Apres Diem (Midtown Promenade).
