He serves as a Physician Executive with the Advanced Heart Program at Banner - University Medical Group in Phoenix, Arizona, and as a Professor of Surgery and Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix.

His clinical and research interests include the total artificial hearts, left ventricular assist devices, heart transplantation and biomedical engineering.
He is board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, an American surgical organization devoted to surgery of the chest.
Among the doctor’s many accomplishments, he was the recipient of the Training Award of Excellence – American Society for Artificial Internal Organs in 1998, the ASAIO/Lippincott-Raven Book Award for abstract entitled, “Success Rates of Long Term Circulatory Assist Devices Currently Used for Bridge to Heart Transplantation,” in 1996, the Yoshioka & Akutsu Prize for abstract entitled, “Patient Selection for Successful Outcome with the CardioWest Total Artificial Heart as a Bridge to Heart Transplantation,” in 1996, among many others.
