Houston, Texas Jun 4, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - This month, a movement that has produced scores of gripping original works from playwrights across the nation returns to the stage in Houston, TX. The Fade To Black Play Festival’s seventh Summer season runs June 27th through June 29th, 2019 at the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston (MATCH). With a history that is both rooted in the local performing arts community and reflective of the support & input from artists all over the country, this needed initiative offers attendees 10 captivating short plays in a competition style showcase that compels and entertains. "After seeing so few African-American playwrights represented in theater festivals in the Houston community," says Denise O’Neal, "I decided it was time for a change." O’Neal is the festival’s Executive Director and Founder of Shabach Enterprise, the 501 c3 non-profit theatre organization that produces The Fade To Black Play Festival.

The Fade To Black Play Festival was designed to promote African-American playwrights and to foster inclusion in the Arts and the general community, through producing the original works of emerging African-American playwrights. The now nationally recognized platform gives a voice to a society of artists whose excellence and point of view is often underrepresented. Celebrating through diverse casts & crews, often untold stories and under expert guidance from Directors that are completing the circle of inspiring and educating. During last year's festival, board member Dabrina Sandifer directed a show written by one of her former students from the High School of Performing and Visual Arts. During this same season, a fellow director in the line up was Dana Joseph, who’d directed Sandifer when she was a student. While board members are unaware of what pieces are submitted, and not involved in the selection process, these kismet moments show the impact that the Fade To Black Play Festival platform is providing for seasoned and blossoming talent. Playwrights submitted their work from across the country for consideration from February 1st to April 1st. A panel of esteemed judges selected the winners whose work will appear on this year’s stage.

People of all backgrounds are invited and encouraged to attend. The Fade To Black Play Festival will run from June 27th to June 29th, 2019 at Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston (MATCH) located at 3400 Main St, Houston, Texas 77002. Shows begin at 8:00 pm each night. There will be a Playwright Talk-Back immediately after the Friday night performance.

For tickets, visit MATCHouston.org. Some of the intense performances may not be suitable for theatergoers under 18.

The Fade To Black Play Festival is funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, Texas Commission on the Arts and the contributions of private donors.
