Madrid, Spain Jul 8, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - The Regional Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid hosted on July the 25th, the Biomedical Innovation Summit www.bioinnovationsummit.com. Participants included Spanish hospitals, universities and research centres, clinicians, researchers and entrepreneurs in biomedicine, biotechnology and digital health; with leading investors, industry executives, and professionals in intellectual property and technology transfer. Experts from Europe, the USA and Asia participated in this edition, with over 250 registered attendees.
The meeting follows the success model of the Global Initiative, developed over 12 years in Europe and around the world, serving to build capacity and expertise in the fields of biotech, health and biomedical innovation with a goal of accelerating the transfer of research results with potential for direct impact on patients and society.
The summit featured international biotech leaders, with Hoyoung Huh, MD PhD, founder and CEO of pH Pharma (www.ph-pharma.com) speaking in the inaugural lecture. The co-organizers, Christian Suojanen, founder of the global initiative and Biomedical Innovation Summit, and Lorena Muñoz, CEO of Effectia Consulting, commented, "It has been a pleasure to welcome Dr Huh as a keynote speaker to share his experience in building successful biotechnology companies from early research results, with his presentation "What is the global model of sustainable biotechnology for the future?"
Other experts including Steve Ferguson, Deputy Director of Licensing and Entrepreneurship in the Office of Technology Transfer of the National Institute of Health (NIH), and Vibhu Sachdev, Assistant Director, Business Development and Licensing, Office of Technology Transfer of the Rockefeller University, discussed models of good practices in technology transfer and public-private partnerships. Tony Jones, CEO of One Nucleus, and Phil Jackson of MedCity joined a panel with and Vince Smeraglia, Executive Director of the Office of Technology Commercialization, Rutgers University on best practices and lessons learned in bioregion and ecosystem development. Other panels focused on Intellectual Property, leading accelerator models including Temasek’s Singapore model, and the view of venture capital investors, all focused on different steps in the process of moving promising research towards the market and the patient.
