West Palm Beach, Florida Jul 24, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - Julie Fisher Cummings, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties is pleased to announce grants of over $1 million in scholarships to 107 local students to assist with education expenses. The average amount awarded is over $10,000 each for students from Palm Beach and Martin counties.
"The Community Foundation is thankful to our generous donors and fundholders who make these scholarship awards possible," said Danita D. Nias, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. "Their investment in the education of our young people has impacted each student's future."
Over 350 students engaged in a competitive process that included being evaluated by an advisory committee of board members and community volunteers based on a formal application, academic resume, essays, and interviews.
"The process of choosing who will be awarded each of these scholarships is undertaken with dedication and discipline," said January Reissman, vice president for Community Impact of the Community Foundation. "The process is never easy because our student applicants are outstanding."
This year, the Community Foundation Scholarship Program awarded students from all over its two-county service area. Scholarship recipients represent over 45 schools and all have unique education and career plans that the Community Foundation and its donors are proud to support.
The organization has awarded over $16 million in scholarship grants since 1983, and helped over 2,500 students, making it one of the largest providers of scholarships in the two counties.
The Foundation manages 111 scholarship funds established by donors who are committed to education, and often named in the memory of a loved one.
