ADYPU School Of Law organises 2nd International Faculty Development Programme on Environmental Law

Mumbai, Maharashtra Jul 12, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - In its pursuit of imparting innovative education, Ajeenkya D Y Patil University-- School of Law had conducted the Second International Faculty Development Programme on the multidisciplinary theme of ‘Environmental Law in Globalised World: Issues & Challenges’ recently. 

The Chief Guest for the inaugural session was Dr. Ujjwala Barve—Head-Department of Communication and Journalism, Savitribai Phule Pune University. In her speech, she laid emphasis on the inclusion of environmental modules in the curriculum of Higher Education Institutions. 

Dr. Kokila Lankathilake, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka delivered a keynote address. During her speech, she presented an overview of international treaties in the field of environment. She stressed the need for cooperation between state and non-state actors for environment protection. 

Dr. Vanisree Ramanathan, Head- School of Ethics, Governance, Culture & Social Systems, Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (Kerala) highlighted on Impact of Climate Change on Human Rights. She also shared her experiences of heavy rain and its effect on the lifestyle of Kerala citizens in 2018. 

Advocate Dormaan Dalal, Bombay High Court delivered his address on Writ Jurisdiction vis-a-vis Green Tribunal. He threw light on the nature and jurisdiction of National Green Tribunal and the conflict between Writ Jurisdiction of Indian Constitution and jurisdiction of National Green Tribunal

The faculty had an interesting opportunity to learn to create eco-friendly products from old newspapers. They underwent a field trip to Khadakwasla Dam-where they gained insights on the challenges and issues faced in the storage capacity and management of the dam. The field trip was guided by Selva Balan, Scientist from Central Water and Power Research Station, Pune 

More than 60 delegates participated from across India and aboard attended the program. Thirteen research papers were presented on new innovations in the field of environment. 

Highlighting the objective of IFDP is Dr. K K S R Murthy-Head of School of Law, “Globally, climate change and pollution are the burning environments concerns issues facing mankind. The main objective of this IFDP is to encourage faculty for interdisciplinary research in the area of Environment. This program aimed to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on the latest innovations in the field of sustainability & environment protection.”
