250-Hour Worldwide Karaoke Marathon Spurs Healing Nonprofit and Possible New World Record.

Spontaneous marathon Zoom Karaoke event expects to set a new world record while demonstrating the healing power of music and harmony.

New York City, New York Apr 26, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - On Friday, March 25, 2022, at 5:30 pm, group administrator Deborah Chang, who lost her father to COVID-19 in 2020, started her “Dayoke” (daytime Karaoke) and began live streaming in the Karaoke Addicts’ (KA) private Facebook Group. This group of Karaoke enthusiasts who kept the event going for more than 250 hours (10 days and 10 hours) are the most diverse group of people imaginable: by race, nationality, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical/mental ability, economic background, geographical location, political affiliation, and much more.

Composed of members from all over the United States, Europe, and even the Middle East and Asia, the KA Facebook group was born during the start of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The space is used for people from all around the world to host and attend virtual karaoke shows over Zoom. The community serves as more than just a recreational pastime and has become a new form of virtual socialization and mental health therapy for the trials and tribulations brought on by the pandemic.

The members – including “Sweet Bella,” who came up with the marathon concept, and “Miss Charlie,” who hosted the night shift for all 10 days – committed to creating a safe community that is respectful of everyone, where everyone can come and share their love for karaoke and music as well as their feelings about any topic, making long-lasting friendships along the way. With the world being full of polarized and hostile environments, much could be learned from this amazing online community that uses their common love of karaoke and each other to come together under trying times.

On the morning of April 5th, at 12:30 am PDT / 3:30 am EDT, the event passed its 10th continuous day and hit its 250th continuous hour. The Karaoke Addicts celebrated this milestone by ceremoniously ending their marathon event with the hope of having it recorded with Guinness as the longest ever continuous online karaoke event.

While setting a record was the initial goal that united the Karaoke Addicts, the friendships and support experienced along the way ultimately proved to be of far greater value than any world record. Since the conclusion of the marathon event, Deborah Chang has been inspired to form a new 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, named “Good Karma Karaoke: Where every voice is heard,” to nurture and grow this amazing community and lift it up as an example – for those tired of hearing about polarization and disunity – of the healing power of harmonious diversity
